Newborn Session in the Woods | Homosassa

FILED IN: Newborn

I cannot tell you how excited I was when Shannon contacted me about doing a newborn session and expressed the desire to do something outdoors! She explained that she and her husband love hunting and fishing and would much rather something outdoors as opposed to in their home or in a studio. While I am grateful to all of my clients and for the past babies that I have photographed, the truth is that I have always wanted to branch out from the traditional in home setting. What I love is nature. The look of tall established trees, the whispy tall grass and native Florida plants. The smell of fresh air paired with the sound of birds or other natural wildlife in the background. My creative heart just thrives out in the open woods underneath a setting sun. It’s what I love. One of my favorite things to do is arrive a little bit early, or stay a little bit later during a shoot to capture the beautiful natural details of a location. A pulled back shot of the way a woodland pine forest looks with the setting sun peaking out behind the trees. Or a close up of a Florida native golden rod’s bloom, once a bright yellow, now faded to feathery off-white bundles of seeds ready to be carried away by the wind.

I am just so happy now to combine two beautiful things, precious new life and the natural outdoors, to offer something I am so proud of and completely in love with. I could have not asked for a better family to have photographed for my first official outdoor newborn session with. Baby Jace was born December 03 late at night weighing 8 lbs 3 oz and measuring 20.5 inches long. Jace was just about two weeks old for his newborn session. His momma, Shannon, was absolutely glowing in her new role of motherhood… golden hair shining in the sun as she held her beautiful baby boy. Justin shone just as brightly as a new father. The way he held his new boy and so attentively cared to him… grabbing blankets, a binky, or whatever else he needed at the time and always making sure he wasn’t being bothered by the bugs. We ended the evening with a couple of shots that Justin + Shanon had specially requested. Baby Jace was changed into a sweet tiny crotched deer outfit they had received from someone as a gift. Justin changed into his camo clothes, hung his (unloaded) gun over his shoulder and placed his sweet boy over his shoulder. I think we succeeded in capturing the sweetest daddy son hunting portrait, ever!
